Massive Quake Devastates Mexico -- With Tsunami Warnings

Quake had a magnitude of 8.1.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.1 has been reported off the coast of Mexico.

The quake, which was felt as far as Mexico City and Guatemala City, had a depth of 33km -- with buildings shaking and people running into the streets.

One visitor to the city, Luis Carlos Briceno, told Reuters: "I had never been anywhere where the earth moved so much."

Some electricity cuts have also been reported in the capital.

According to BBC, a tsunami warning has subsequently been issued for Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama and Honduras.

The pacific tsunami warning centre said hazardous waves could be possible "within the next three hours". reported The Guardian.

There have been warnings of possible waves over three metres for parts of the Mexican coast.
