An MP gave a whole speech without being distracted by the words “cock gobbler” which appeared on screen in front of him throughout.
Matt Hancock, Minister of State responsible for digital policy, was speaking at the Radio Academy’s Radio Festival at the British Library on Monday about broadcasting and was clearly looking forward to it.
At first, it was going fine and Hancock set out the Government’s view on “competition, regulation and digital future” as if nothing were wrong.
Patrick Foster, The Telegraph’s media correspondent, revealed a “screen malfunction” meant the words “cock gobbler” came up on his screen.
But Hancock didn’t falter and delivered the speech, making light of the insult staring him in the face afterwards.
Foster published audio of Hancock saying how he had managed: “You’re obviously getting upset because it just says, in large letters, ‘cock gobbler’”.
Much to the amusement of some of the big names attending the festival.
