Mel B has clarified reports about her health amid claims she was “doing OK” after going blind.
While the Spice Girl admitted she had been in hospital after losing her eyesight, she said she had a much more terrifying experience than what was reported.
Mel said she was “in a lot of pain and very very scared” after suffering severe iritis in her right eye and uveitis in her left eye, which has left her needing to wear a patch ahead of the Spice Girls’ reunion tour.
Posting on Instagram, she wrote: “Just so you know the real truth. I had an awful experience last week when I went blind in my right eye and my left eye went blurry.
“Even though the stupid press said I’m ok and this has happened to me many times before, just to be clear I was NOT ok and this has NEVER EVER happened to me before, so who ever is selling this story ‘a close reliable source’ is full of BS and needs to get there silly facts right big time.”
She continued: “I was actually in a lot of pain and very very scared but thanks to the incredible eye specialists in A&E at London’s Moorfields Hospital and after at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital I was diagnosed by and eye specialist with severe IRITIS in my right eye and UVEITIS in my left eye.”
Mel went on to explain that she was taking “multiple prescription heavy duty eye drops and other medication to keep the inflammation under control” and “would be dealing with it and will be for the next 3/4 months to fully get it under control”.
She added: “My only problem now is I have to find a very cool Scary eye patch. Does anyone - apart from Madonna - know where I can get one.”
Luckily, it looks like Mel will be well enough to join Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Horner on stage for the Spice Girls’ first tour date in Dublin on Friday.
The band have been preparing for the tour for the past few weeks, but were forced to deny rumours of a rift last month when Mel B missed the start of rehearsals.
Emma confirmed she was “rehearsing in LA because she’s still got commitments and her children”, although she later joined her bandmates in London.
Rumours of a feud came after Mel B publicly stated she once once had sex with Geri.
After a brief period of silence, Geri addressed Mel’s comments, and the media reports which followed, by saying they were “disappointing”, “hurtful” and “not true”.
Earlier this week, the girls dialled up the excitement for the tour with a first look at what fans can expect to see.
