Republican lawyer Mike Davis, an adviser for Donald Trump who is being talked up as his potential attorney general, already mirrors the president-elect’s crassness and hostility. (Watch the video below.)
On a right-wing podcast Thursday, Davis took aim at New York Attorney General Letitia James, who sued the former president for committing business fraud and won a $454 million civil judgment against him and the Trump Organization. (He has appealed.)
“Let me just say this to big Tish James: I dare you to try to continue your lawfare against President Trump in his second term,” Davis said on Benny Johnson’s “Benny Show” podcast. “Because, listen here, sweetheart: We’re not messing around this time, and we will put your fat ass in prison for conspiracy against rights, and I promise you that.”
“So, think long and hard before you want to violate President Trump‘s constitutional rights or any other American‘s constitutional rights,” he continued. “It’s not gonna happen again.”
On Wednesday, following Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris, James said in a statement: “I am ready to do everything in my power to ensure our state and nation do not go backwards. ... We will work each and every day to defend Americans, no matter what this new administration throws at us. We are ready to fight back again.”
Davis’ racist and sexist personal insults were no surprise. His over-the-top tough-guy talk has been making news. His recent musings include a proposal to throw journalists in gulags and, regarding Trump’s perceived enemies, “to drag their dead political bodies through the streets, burn them and throw them off the wall (Legally, politically, and financially, of course.)”
While some of his bluster is merely trolling, it’s hard to tell when he’s joking, as HuffPost previously reported.
Trump has said he wants Davis in a “high capacity” but has yet to tip his hand on exactly what position.
The attorney previously counseled U.S. senators on the confirmation of federal judges.
