Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has defended her character’s romance with Mike Wheeler.
At the beginning of the sci-fi drama’s third series, teenagers Eleven and Mike are seen in the throes of a new relationship, much to the annoyance of her newly-adopted dad, Jim Hopper.
But while some have suggested they preferred the dynamic of Eleven and Mike in the early series of Stranger Things, when they were just unlikely best friends, Millie has insisted it was always planned for them to end up together.
“[We] always saw them in love,” she told Digital Spy. “Eleven is full of love and she’s so excited for her new relationship with Mike. I think it’s just relatable and you can totally see it happening in real life.”
On the many kissing scenes she had to share with co-star Finn Wolfhard, Millie noted: “We were in a safe environment where we felt comfortable with each other… it was really fun.”
However, not everyone in Hawkins is happy about Eleven and Mike’s budding romance (or Lucas and Max’s, for that matter), with Will Byers getting upset with his friends’ relationships taking time away from their games of Dungeons And Dragons.
Stranger Things 3 made its Netflix debut on July 4, coinciding with America’s Independence Day, which forms part of a major plot point in the show’s third series.
The show has been well-received by critics, although some viewers have taken issue with certain aspects of Hopper’s behaviour, including Westworld actress Evan Rachel Wood.
