Have You Hacked The Bank Holidays For A Longer Break? Here's How

Here's how to max your holidays for the rest of the year.

Three million Brits plan to use the two upcoming bank holidays to maximise their time off work, a poll has shown.

A survey of more than 2,000 adults by YouGov coupled with research by the travel agents’ association, Abta, shows that almost that 6% of the UK population plans to take annual leave between the Easter bank holiday and May Day bank holiday – or travel with some clever soul who has.

Thanks to the spring bank holidays being just a fortnight apart this year, employees who usually work Monday to Friday and take nine days leave between 19 April and 6 May will enjoy a very relaxing 18 days off in a row.

But in good news for staycationers who can’t afford to jet off somewhere exciting, temperatures in the UK over the long Easter weekend are set to exceed those of many popular holiday destinations, reaching an estimated 20C – hotter than equivalent highs in the south of France, the Balearic islands in Spain and even the Turkish coast.

And if you’ve not taken advantage of the Spring bank holiday hack, there are other ways to max out your holiday at the end of the year.

Plan (Way) Ahead For A Longer Christmas

It’s not just Easter: you can also hack the winter bank holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 26 December and New Year’s Day) to your advantage. This time, you’ll turn seven days into 16 consecutive days off. Just take the following days as a holiday: 23, 24, 27, 30 and 31 December and 2 and 3 January.

Other Bank Holidays To Make The Most Of

The other two bank holidays in 2019 fall on Mondays in May and August. They are:

:: 27 May (Late spring bank holiday)
:: 26 August (Summer bank holiday)
