If you watched episode one of BBC Two’s new drama MotherFatherSon, you’ll have known to expect some uncomfortable scenes from the second.
However, that still probably wouldn’t have prepared you for what happened on Wednesday night’s instalment.
In disturbing scenes, viewers witnessed character Caben Finch rip his own scalp off.
Yep, it was a proper stomach-turner.
Caben suffered a massive stroke at the end of the first episode, as the pressure of living up to his father’s expectations as the editor of the family’s national newspaper, and his spiralling problems with substance abuse, came to a catastrophic head.
After being taken to hospital, he grew increasingly frustrated with the slow progress of his recovery and how the stroke had affected him psychically.
In an attempt to end his life, he then ripped off his scalp, which had previously been operated on, exposing the metal plate in his head.
But it then (somehow) managed to get even worse, as Caben attempted to feed from his mother’s breast.
The sheer gruesomeness of the scene was way too much for viewers to handle, as they reacted in sheer shock at what they’d just witnessed...
Prior to this episode, MotherFatherSon had viewers talking after airing a disturbing sex scene between Caben and a sex worker, which saw actor Billy Howle go fully naked.
The series, which also stars Hollywood legend Richard Gere in the lead role as newspaper mogul Max Finch, was written and created by the Emmy nominated Tom Rob Smith – the man behind The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and London Spy.
MotherFatherSon continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
