Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish emerged as the big winners of MTV Video Music Awards on Monday night.
The singers each took home three Moon Person trophies in what was a triumphant night for pop music.
Taylor and Ariana were tied for the most nominations going into the evening, with 12 nods each, with the former subsequently picking up the night’s top prize of Video Of The Year for You Need To Calm Down.
The video also won the Video For Good prize, while her creative for hit ME! won Best Visual Effects.
During her acceptance speech for the coveted Video Of The Year prize, Taylor appeared to take aim at US President Donald Trump.
The video criticises homophobia and features cameos from high-profile LGBTQ celebrities, while also endorsing the Equality Act – a proposed piece of legislation that would enshrine into law protections for the LGBT community in the US.
While on stage, Taylor said “several points were made” with the visual piece, adding that the Equality Act had now attracted far more signatures than is required to receive a response from the White House.
Meanwhile, an absent Ariana won Artist Of The Year, Best Art Direction for 7 Rings, and Song Of Summer for Boyfriend, while Billie took home three gongs for Best New Artist, Push Artist Of The Year, and Best Editing for Bad Guy.
Other winners included Cardi B, who won Best Hip Hop for her hit Money, while Joe Jonas shared a kiss with his Game Of Thrones star wife Sophie Turner after the Jonas Brothers won Best Pop Video for Sucker.
Performers included Lizzo, who raised eyebrows by singing two of her hits, Truth Hurts and Good As Hell, in front of a giant pair of inflatable buttocks.
Miley Cyrus took to the stage following her separation from Liam Hemsworth to perform her new single Slide Away, which is reportedly about the split.
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who have reportedly been dating since June, also teased fans with an intense performance of hit Senorita and came just inches away from kissing on a dimly lit stage.
The song also won Best Collaboration at the ceremony, which was held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Missy Elliott was also honoured with the MTV Video Vanguard Award, celebrating the impact her visuals have had during her 22-year career.
