I Was Wrong - America Needs To Protest And Stand Up To Trump And His Muslim Ban

How can Donald Trump call himself the 'Leader of the Free World' when he is stripping 134 million Muslims of their freedom to come into the so called 'Centrepiece of the Free World'. I'm sorry to break it to you, but America is no longer free.

In his first week as President, Donald Trump has signed executive orders to 'Build that wall' and pull America out of the TPP, among others. But perhaps the most significant of these is the so called 'Muslim Ban', which has meant that 134 million Muslims are banned from the United States.

In my #UniteNotFight blog you may remember my condemnation of the mass protests. I was wrong. As long as the protests remain peaceful, I believe that it's for every American person who respects differences between people, be that a religious difference, an ethnic difference, a difference in sexuality, whatever, it is YOUR DUTY to get out there and protest.

Watching the protests at JFK International gave me Goosebumps. The sheer amount of passion and commitment that every single person there showed brought a tear to my eye. These are the real American citizens. People who love people regardless of differences. Chants such as "Love, not hate, that's what makes America great" and "No hate, no fear, immigrants are welcome here" rung around the airport and it was incredibly touching. As someone who's eyes have recently been opened to the utter atrocity that is Donald Trump, it was so heart-warming to see so many people open up their hearts to people who are different only in religion and ethnicity.

Donald Trump's slogan of 'Make America Great Again' seems rather stupid now, because in my opinion, it already is great, and this is due to the fact that it's full of such wonderful, kind and loving people.

How can Donald Trump call himself the 'Leader of the Free World' when he is stripping 134 million Muslims of their freedom to come into the so called 'Centrepiece of the Free World'. I'm sorry to break it to you, but America is no longer free.

Many Trump supporters will vigorously back the man they voted for, and I understand that. Democracy is a beautiful thing, but thanks to the flawed American electoral system, a man who didn't even win the popular vote and lost this by over 2 million votes, is president. Trump seems intent on destroying all of the magnificent freedoms created by both the US Constitution, and Presidents such as Obama.

So yes, I was wrong. Many weeks ago I was glad when Trump won. I thought that he would be the best thing for America due to the fact he was anti-establishment. Now on the other hand, I realise that to be quite frank, the man is a racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, orange fool. The way he treated Melania, his wife, on the day of his inauguration was despicable. What kind of husband just walks off from his wife and leaves two very kind people, (the Obamas) to look after her. Barack and Michelle showed more respect to the wife of a man they clearly hate than Donald probably ever has. Hindsight has allowed me to realise that there is barely anything good about Donald Trump.

This Muslim Ban solves nothing. To fight illegal immigrants and terrorists, Trump is punishing people who are completely innocent. Theresa May, our Prime Minister, has failed to condemn him, and even seems to be rather close to him based on their hand holding. She is just as bad as Trump.

Where do the United States go from here? I'll tell you what American's should do. Get out there and shout, chant and scream. Stand up for your country. Continue your brilliant efforts. Because the world is only one week into Trump's presidency, and he's already spreading hate and causing Muslims to lose their right to enter the United States. It's disgraceful and upsetting. But in the words of David Tennant on 'The Last Leg', "It's all going to be okay".
