Nadine Coyle’s former Girls Aloud bandmates have insisted they are all supporting the singer during her time in the I’m A Celebrity jungle after stories emerged that they were plotting to vote for her to do Bushtucker Trials.
Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts have all spoken out after The Sun claimed they had formed a WhatsApp group to chat about Nadine and vote “repeatedly” for her to take part in the dreaded trials.
Cheryl, who has made no secret of the fact that she and Nadine didn’t always see eye to eye whilst in the girl group, says she will “always have love” for Nadine.
“We only want to see Nadine do well, and regardless of any differences we might have had, we will always all have love for each other,” she told MailOnline.
“We did not enjoy watching her distressed when jumping out of the plane. And we don’t have time for group chats regarding the trials on the show.”
Kimberley Walsh also rubbished the reports and said her heart went out to Nadine when she had to skydive from a helicopter during the launch episode.
“I felt really emotional watching Nadine jump out of the plane and texted Cheryl saying how hard it was to watch,” she said. “I think she’s doing great in there.”
Nicola added she wished Nadine the best and insisted the trio have not formed a group chat about Nadine or I’m A Celebrity.
She said: “We don’t have a group chat about I’m A Celebrity, this just isn’t true. We only wish Nadine the best in the jungle and hope she does well on the show.”
A spokesperson also denied the claims and told MailOnline: “This story is completely fabricated and made up.
“Cheryl, Nicola and Kimberley have not been ‘plotting’ to get Nadine to do trials in I’m A Celebrity. To suggest they have been is quite frankly ridiculous.”
Earlier this week, Nadine insisted the rumours that her and Cheryl didn’t get along in Girls Aloud was “fake news” after former EastEnders star Jacqueline Jossa asked her about it in the jungle.
Just a day earlier, Nadine also discussed the band’s relationship with one another while talking to Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway.
“Everyone gets on with their lives,” Nadine told her. “I was friends with them all, it was all nice and lovely.
“But I was always in the gay bars with all the guys! I’d be out partying, me and ten guys, I was having a laugh, I was 18-19 years old.”
Girls Aloud – made up of Nadine, Cheryl, Nicola, Kimberley and Sarah Harding – was created during TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002.
They went on a hiatus in 2009 later reuniting for a tenth anniversary tour in 2012, before announcing their disbandment on the final night.
Nadine always maintained that she had nothing to do with Girls Aloud going their separate ways – something that Cheryl very publicly disputed.
“She’s full of shit,” Cheryl told Attitude magazine in 2014. “What d’you want us to say? She’s full of shit.
“She was the one who wanted to make a solo record. Which is why we took the hiatus.
“She wants to come out and say we broke the band up? No! She shouldn’t tell porkie pies. She should remember why we took the hiatus after seven years so she could go and…”
She continued: “Okay, so do you want us to tell the truth? She wasn’t going to make another Girls Aloud record until she got a solo deal.
“I feel she held us to ransom and then made her solo record deal.
“It’s the truth. She’s saying that we broke the band up. So there you go.”
In 2017, Nadine admitted she now felt “indifferent” towards the rest of the group telling HuffPost UK: “In an ideal world, we would be all great friends, and it would be a great thing… but I’m really supportive of things that they do, and you can’t help but feel happy for somebody when something great happens, you know, they have a baby or, you know, great things!
“I feel happy for other people feeling happy. I can take joy from their happy moments.”
I’m A Celebrity airs nightly at 9pm on ITV.
