Newt Gingrich: Health Care Reform Is 'Centralized Health Dictatorship' (VIDEO)

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich recently lobbied for Republicans to treat the repeal of health care as a serious exercise instead of a futile one, saying that it was their duty to combat the "centralized health dictatorship" set into motion by "ObamaCare."

"The Center for Health Transformation is about to enter a report that the Secretary of Health and Human Services has 1,961 grants of power in the ObamaCare bill," Gingrich said in an interview with Human Events. "I mean, you talk about a centralized health dictatorship."

Responding to claims that the health care repeal effort would sink in the Senate, where the GOP is still in the minority, Gingrich claimed that Republicans simply needed to press Democrat senators facing reelection in 2012.

"[T]arget the 23 Democrats up for re-election and create petition drives in all 23 states [to] build pressure on the Senate to follow the House's lead," Gingrich advised.

The House is expected to vote on the Republican health care repeal bill Wednesday, even as their recent claims about the original package's "job-killing" initiatives and overall support for the repeal effort are called into question.
