As even the most casual of daytime viewers will know, the morning after the National Television Awards is always a bit of a difficult one for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
Over the years, the pair have become well-known for hosting This Morning while a little worse for wear, after a night of celebrations following the show’s NTAs win, and this year was no exception.
Although Wednesday’s episode was nowhere near the scenes of 2016 – when the pair turned up to work still wearing their outfits from the previous night – Holly did open the show by admitting she and her co-host were “struggling”.
Phil put their state down to having “mixed” drinks the night before, after This Morning scooped Best Live Magazine Show for its 10th year, with Holly telling viewers: “We’re suffering, but it was worth it, it really was.”
Things took a nosedive later in the episode, though, when the duo were tasked with presenting a segment about healthy eating.
After being presented with a KitKat Chunky during the conversation, Holly then grabbed it, after nutritionist Graeme Tomlinson compared it positively to a yoghurt bar, which can contain additional ingredients like nuts.
“No nuts in there,” she announced, provoking giggles from Phil, only for Holly to run into another problem.
“It’s stuck... I can’t get it down!” Holly declared, while Phillip attempted to get the segment back on track, despite his co-presenter being unable to keep her composure next to him.
Holly then laughed uncontrollably throughout her guest’s explanation about why Coca Cola has fewer calories than some smoothies, only to interject with an enthusiastic “really?!”, prompting yet more laughs.
Phillip then apologised to Graeme, suggesting he come back on a day that he and Holly are feeling “more sensible”.
“Never good to be booked on this show after [the NTAs],” he joked.
But while it sounds like Holly and Phil spent the night celebrating their NTAs victory, not everyone was so happy to see This Morning doing so well, namely the stars of Loose Women, who were up for the same award.
While panellist Nadia Sawalha was seen on screen claiming she was “not happy” about losing out, her co-presenter Denise Welch revealed she’d actually left the awards show early.
This Morning airs every weekday from 10.30am on ITV.
