O2 has issued advice after customers complained of being “bombarded” with dozens of spam calls from Guinea.

On Twitter, users of the phone network described receiving more than 50 calls from the west African country, with some being called by several different numbers.

O2 customer Peter Ellis started receiving calls on Saturday afternoon. “They only ring for a few seconds and then stop,” he told HuffPost UK. “I’ve received 10 so far, but I’ve seen on Twitter that others have received many more than this.

“Each number is different so blocking them doesn’t really help.”

Meanwhile, Jamie Millington said he had been called “well over a hundred times”, receiving calls every five minutes throughout the night. “It’s very annoying,” he added.

Another user tweeted: “Why am I getting numbers from Guinea phoning me? My phone was on silent luckily, by at 3am this morning I had 18 missed calls, I’ve woken up to another 12 and had one while writing this to you.

“I keep blocking numbers but getting very annoyed now!”

I am on my 55th call now and I’m losing my patience! 🤬 @O2 can you please do something about this! 😓 pic.twitter.com/qYmkXJUhte

O2 – who said that a number of phone operators had been affected by the issue – has now advised customers to block the numbers.

“Customers can block the numbers quite easily, or they can report them to us and we can block them,” a press officer told HuffPost UK on Sunday.

The issue is being investigated by O2’s fraud and security team, they added.

HuffPost UK has contacted other UK phone operators to see if they have also been affected by the calls.
