Oasis have released their back catalog of albums on streaming services in the UK. With the band's breakthrough debut album Definitely, Maybe set to celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year, the announcement comes amid rumors of a possible reunion.
As a tribute to the band's enduring influence and to salute his Gallagher mates, Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie was pegged by Rdio to create an exclusive playlist of his favourite Oasis tracks listeners through the Oasis journey, from Rock 'N' Roll Star to the Masterplan.
The band have made their entire collection of albums available on Rdio, Spotify and Deezer for free and premium memberships to the services.
The back catalog has also been made available to other territories across Europe, including Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Netherlands and Belgium.
Oasis spent 765 weeks in the UK Top 75 singles and albums charts during their career between 1995 and 2005, which gained them the Guinness World Record for the most successful British act ever.
As leaders in the early 90's post-grunge Britpop phenomenon -- which included archrivals Blur -- Oasis' guitar-driven sound showcases clear inspiration from original British Invasion acts like the Kinks, David Bowie, and the Beatles while layering on the more modern influences of fellow Mancunian bands like The Smiths, Happy Mondays, and the Stone Roses.
A reunion has been widely speculated in recent years in the run-up to their 20th anniversary in 2014. Original guitarist Bonehead indicated last week that he and Liam would be up for getting together.
"If someone said, 'Here's a field, here's a stage, and here's 200,000 people', I'm sure Liam would jump up and do it, and I don't think it would even take anyone offering him a massive bankroll of money. He'd do it because that's what he loves, that's his passion.", he told NME.
Despite Noel's continued insistance to the contrary, even their original manager, Creation Records Alan McGee felt the potential existed.
Alan said: ''Liam and Noel have got to do it. I think we'll have to wait for the 25th anniversary in a couple of years. They're brothers. You can never predict how things work out.''
