If you’re watching Love Island, you’ll know that Ovie Soko is winning a lot of fans right now. And if you’re not, just look at this to get up to speed.
For context: the professional basketball player, 28, who arrived in the villa during this year’s Casa Amor twist, became a total summer mood when he relaxed back on the sofa, wearing pink shorts and shirt and sucking an ice pop to match, after being pied by fellow contestant, Anna Vakili.
Since he first strolled in – all 6ft 7in of him – Twitter has been all over him, so much so that some mums are even considering Ovie as a baby name.

“Am I watching too much Love Island or is Ovie a cute name?” one mum recently wrote on Mumsnet.
Unfortunately for her, most commenters on her post didn’t seem to be Love Island viewers – and weren’t big fans of the name either. “It reminds me of ovaries!” said many, while others said: “It’s really, really not a good name.”
“Naming your kid because of a show seems shortsighted, to be honest.”
Another wrote: “I’ve never seen Love Island. Naming your kid because of a show which is on now, but presumably not forever, seems shortsighted tbh.”
According to baby site The Bump, Ovie can be a diminutive of Overton, which originates in Old English, meaning “riverside settlement”. Soko’s family is British-Nigerian – where the name Ovie means king. No arguments there.
And we’re not the only ones who’ve taken a shine to it. “Cute name,” commented another mum on the original post. “I love it.”
