Paul Simon has heaped praise on a new version of his song Bridge Over Troubled Water, recorded by Welsh NHS staff members.
The legendary musician posted the “extraordinary” video on his Twitter page earlier this week, explaining its touching purpose.
“Here is an extraordinary performance of Bridge Over Troubled Water by the brave men and women from NHS in honor of the Llandudno’s Venue Cymru, which has been turned into a temporary hospital,” he explained.
“The facility has been renamed to Ysbyty Enfys, which means Rainbow Hospital in Welsh.”
Jools Holland leads the performance on the piano, with vocal contributions from staff members and a choir from Conwy, in Wales, who recorded each of their parts from home individually, but come together on the track.
Introducing the video are Welsh stars including actors Matthew Rhys and Rhys Ifans, who have shared their thanks with the NHS staff for their tireless work in the current crisis.

This isn’t the first time that music has brought people together for a good cause during lockdown.
A star-studded cover of the Foo Fighters’ Times Like These reached number one in the UK at the beginning of this month, with proceeds being split between Children In Need and Comic Relief, to help those affected by the coronavirus crisis.
As well as Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, Mabel and Rita Ora all contributed to the track.
Times Like These replaced Captain Tom Moore and Michael Ball’s version of You’ll Never Walk Alone at the top of the UK singles chart, proceeds from which also went to charity.
