People Are Chartering £25K Private Jets To The Europa And Champions League Finals

How much is too much for a football match?

Do you ever get a bit carried away with your spending, telling yourself that you work really hard and just need to treat yo’self?

Well, if you’ve ever had that sinking feeling of regret, you can rest assured that you’re not spending £25K(!) to see a football match.

Seeing as a host of English teams are playing across Europe this summer – Tottenham vs Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid, and Chelsea vs Arsenal in the Europa League final in Baku – people are serving up the big bucks to be in on the action.

Private jet charter operator, Luxaviation UK, said it’s had a surge in bookings and enquiries into flights to Spain and Azerbaijan since the matches were announced, according to The Independent.

One keen football fan called the company just four minutes after the final whistle of Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final victory against Barcelona – and Patrick Margetson-Rushmore, the chief exec, confirmed they booked.

In fact, the operator has more than doubled the number of planes it normally flies to the two countries in one month, based on last-minute bookings – it now has 350 flights in total next month.

Admittedly, low-cost airlines haven’t been cheap either – the demand means tickets are now costing a fair whack or are already fully booked. But at least they don’t cost £25,000 for one plane, hey?

The charter price of a private jet with Luxaviation UK from London Luton Airport to Madrid, on a Cessna Citation Excel, suitable for up to eight fans, is approximately £25,000 – equating to approximately £3,125 per person. Ouch.

At the moment, tickets from London to Madrid on budget airlines are going for around £750 (if there are any left). There are no direct flights from the UK to Baku available, but a private jet could get you there in less than six hours.

Plus, you get to feel like Beyoncé – so you can see why people might be tempted.
