Man Sets Himself On Fire Close To The White House

The US Secret Service said the man was receiving first aid.

Emergency services have responded to a person engulfed in flames close to the White House.

The US Secret Service said in a tweet that a man had set himself on fire, was receiving first aid.

Authorities from the National Park Service and US Park Police were in attendance at the scene on the Ellipse near the Washington Mall, an area popular with tourists

At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid.

Footage posted on social media shows police rushing to the scene where an individual appears to be on fire.

Shortly after a large cloud discharges from what appears to be a fire extinguisher.

It was the second such incident since April 12, when a man in a wheelchair-type electric scooter lit his jacket on fire outside the White House fence.
