People queuing to buy Fleabag tickets got quite the surprise on Saturday when Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott appeared at the box office to hand out cans of gin and tonic.
The show’s stars stunned fans when they arrived at the London theatre at 6am to offer out cans of the drink, which is famously drunk by their characters in a scene of the hit BBC sitcom.
Fans had lined up outside the box office as early as 5am in the hope of securing tickets to the stage show, which is written by and stars Phoebe in the familiar role.
One woman in the queue named Alexei filmed the pair as they made their way down the line handing out the cans.
She told the PA news agency: “Just before the box office opened, Andrew Scott came out followed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge carrying boxes of M&S G&T giving them away to everyone in the queue.
“No-one could believe it was actually happening. Phoebe Waller-Bridge thanked everyone for waiting for hours and said that she hoped people would get tickets and will enjoy the show.
“Everyone was in shock.”
Photos from the drinks being handed out were later used by Marks and Spencer, which wrote on its Instagram page: “This is not just any G&T… This is a G&T handed out to fans by ‘hot priest’ Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge!”
Andrew appeared as Fleabag’s love interest, “Hot Priest”, in the last series of the BBC Three comedy, but is not in the stage version of the show. However, he led a standing ovation from the audience during a recent press night.
He reunited with Phoebe earlier in the week when she presented him with the Standout Performance award at the GQ Men Of The Year bash for his role in Fleabag.
However, their recent public appearances together are probably the closest thing we’re going to get to a full-on reunion between Phoebe and Andrew, as she previously said she feels like she’s “done” with the show.
“She went on the biggest journey over the past two seasons, and she started as someone who sort of hated herself and ended up as someone believing that she could love again and forgive herself,” Phoebe told The Hollywood Reporter. “I have to respect that arc and let her go and live for a bit.”
Andrew did recently say that he’d be up for appearing in a third series of Fleabag if Phoebe were to ask him though, telling Digital Spy: “Listen, I’ll be there whatever she wants me to do.”
