Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been confirmed to be on the writing team for the upcoming 25th James Bond film.
Phoebe – best known as the star and writer of the hit BBC Three comedy – was announced as one of the writers of the new film on Thursday, during a live streamed Bond event.
Earlier this month, the Observer reported that Daniel Craig had specifically requested for Phoebe to join the writing team, after being impressed with her work on both Fleabag and Killing Eve.
She will be co-writing the screenplay with Scott Z Burns, whose past credits include The Bourne Ultimatum and Contagion.
During the same live event, the cast for the upcoming project – currently dubbed Bond 25 in the absence of an official title – was also announced.
Returning to the franchise will be Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes as Moneypenny, Q and M, respectively, alongside Léa Seydoux and Jeffrey Wright.
As had already been heavily rumoured, recent Oscar winner Rami Malek has also been confirmed to be joining the film as a new villain.
Teasing what was in store in a pre-recorded video message, he said: “I’m very much looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew very soon. And I promise you all I’ll be making sure Mr Bond doesn’t have an easy time of it in this, his 25th outing.”
Also among the new additions to the James Bond cast are Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen and Dali Benssalah.
While Danny Boyle was initially hired as the director of the new film, it was announced three months later that he’d left the project due to “creative differences”.
Instead, it will be overseen by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who previously directed Beasts Of No Nation and the miniseries Maniac for Netflix.
