Julia Bickerstaff,
A giant light installation inspired by the North Star will land in Leeds on Monday to mark the launch of the new intercity train operator, TransPennine Express (TPE). The interactive artwork, designed by Leeds-based light designer, Julia Bickerstaff, encourages the public to share their hopes for the North, which then affects the Starâs colour and brightness. The two-day shining display of the Northâs hopes and views of the future is positioned in Millennium Square in Leeds and measures a giant 6 x 6 metres. The 3D structure has been constructed using Steel, an array of brightly coloured neon tubing. By physically adding a hope for the future of the North with an LED magnet or by tweeting @TPExpressTrains with the #WhereNext. The North Star installation represents TPEâs vision to support the North to thrive through enabling major cities and communities to connect through people and places is our vision for the future.
