It was not David Schwimmer.

Police searching for a David Schwimmer lookalike who allegedly stole from a restaurant say they have identified a suspect.

Earlier this week Lancashire constabulary was inundated with comments informing them the person they wanted to trace over the theft in Blackpool was actually Ross Geller from Friends.

On Thursday, the force tweeted: “Could we BE any more overwhelmed with the response to our CCTV appeal about a theft at a restaurant in Blackpool?

“Most importantly, we’re now satisfied we’ve identified the man in the still and our inquiries are very much continuing. Huge thanks for sharing it with your Friends.”

Schwimmer tweeted his innocence on Wednesday, saying he was in New York at the time and provided video evidence.

Officers, I swear it wasn't me.
As you can see, I was in New York.
To the hardworking Blackpool Police, good luck with the investigation.#itwasntme pic.twitter.com/EDFF9dZoYR

The police were searching for the man because he was suspected of stealing a mobile phone, jacket and wallet.

It’s fair to say it hasn’t been his day, week, month, or even year.
