Police have responded to a stabbing incident in Glasgow city centre, less than a mile away from where six people were injured in a knife attack on Friday.
Officers were called just after midday on Sunday to a report of an assault in Argyle Street. Police are currently at the scene and a police cordon has been erected at Argyle Street where it meets James Watt Street.
In a statement, Inspector Gareth Griffiths said: “We were called around 12.10pm on Sunday, 28 June, to a report of an assault in Argyle Street, Glasgow.
“We believe this was a targeted assault and we do not believe there is a threat to the wider public.
“This is not being treated as linked to the incident in West George Street, Glasgow, on Friday June 26, or any nearby hotels or accommodation.”
An eyewitness told The Herald and Times that he heard “loads of screaming” in the area and saw a man lying on the ground “covered in blood”.
“Literally just happened, was loads of screaming and guy is on the ground with blood all over him,” the witness said.
“Looked like the guy came out of the Premier Inn hotel.”
Police Scotland said the incident on Saturday was not linked to the attack on West George Street on Friday, in which a police officer and five other people - including two teenagers - were stabbed during a “serious incident” at a hotel.
The knife attack took place at around midday at the Park Inn Hotel and a male suspect was shot by an armed unit and died at the scene.
The officer who was injured in the attack, Constable David Whyte, is now in stable condition.
Three of the other people who were injured were asylum seekers and the other two were members of staff, according to Police Scotland.
All remain in hospital, one in a critical but stable condition while the others in a stable condition.
