Thousands of Prince fans lined the streets outside a nightclub in his hometown of Minneapolis last night (21 April), as they held a party in honour of the late singer.
His publicist confirmed that the music legend had been found dead at his home at the age of 57, early on Thursday morning.
Distraught fans flocked to First Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, which is where the video for Prince’s hit ‘Purple Rain’ was filmed.
The club held a free all-night dance party, and those who couldn’t make it inside left bouquets of flowers and balloons under a star mural on the club’s exterior wall.
Police even had to close the street to traffic, as they barricaded it to accommodate the large crowds.
