Prue Leith’s colourful clothing choices on The Great British Bake Off have turned her into a low-key fashion icon since she joined the show in 2017, but she has outdone herself with her latest efforts.

The GBBO judge took her love of a statement necklace up a gear as she presided over the latest bakes on the Channel 4 show on Wednesday night.

The multi-coloured piece of jewellery prompted some pretty inspired reactions on Twitter, with comparisons to various kids’ toys, and questions about whether she should be in the dance tent, rather than the Bake Off tent....

For anyone wondering, I can tell you where Prue got her necklace from. It was my childhood doctors waiting room... #GBBO pic.twitter.com/x7nFT2SudN

If the UK is in lockdown, can someone explain why Prue has just got back from a weekend rave in Ibiza? 🤨 #GreatBritishBakeOff #gbbo pic.twitter.com/PTWiLSmqoF

I just realised why Prue’s necklace is so strangely nostalgic and familiar. Looks like all of my Betty spaghettys hair tangled together in the toy box #GBBO pic.twitter.com/EtXrL4LQ99

Prue recently revealed she has been to known to tailor her whole look around a statement necklace.

“I have a shamefully huge collection so once I’m dressed, I just go to the wall on which they all hang and grab what goes with the outfit,” she told Irish News earlier this year.

“Very occasionally I start with the necklace – especially if it’s new and I love it – and then match the outfit to it.”

Prue’s eye-catching pendant wasn’t the only thing that got the Twittersphere talking during the latest episode of Bake Off though.

Many were left devastated at the result, which saw a fan favourite sent home after a disastrous ice cream challenge.

The episode was filmed in the heat of the summer, with the bakers having to contend not just with the pressure of the competition, but high temperatures in the tent, which were not conducive to making ice cream.

Next week will see the remaining five contestants taking on various dessert challenges, as they vie for a place in the semi final.

Find out how they get on when Bake Off returns on Tuesday night at 8pm.
