Reading for a Better Future

Education is the cornerstone of an equal and sustainable community . By providing children access to a solid education, they not only become literate and numerate they acquire life skills that equip them as valuable contributing members of their community . An educated child becomes an empowered adult.

It's been about 6 months since Malala Yousafzai was shot . The Taliban shot her in the head while on the way to school. Her crime was wanting to be educated. She wasn't the only one wanting an education, to learn, to read and write.

There are thousands more just like her across Afghanistan , Kashmir and Pakistan. On the 28th of April the READ ( rural education and development ) foundation partnered by UNICEF, Proctor and Gamble, save the children along with others, aim to highlight the importance of education in the global fight against poverty and ignorance.

In an attempt to break three Guinness world records they will :

Gather the most children in one location reading aloud with an adult

The largest number of children in a single location learning passages from the Quran

The largest number of children in a single location wearing paper hats

The public are invited to help make a radical difference in the lives of these children by visiting the READ foundation website www.readfoundation.org.uk and sponsoring one of these children.
