Renée Zellweger takes centre stage in a new teaser trailer for Netflix’s new show What/If.
The Oscar-winning actress stars in the new Netflix original drama as a wealthy woman who makes a “lucrative, but dubious offer” to a young married couple, in what is billed by the streaming service as an exploration of “what happens when acceptable people start doing unacceptable things”.
In the trailer, Renée is seen sauntering through a party while musing about a mysterious “game”, saying: “What if I made you an offer too extraordinary to refuse for anything and anyone?
“The players are all arranged. What would you risk, for the chance to have it all?”
At the end, she throws a chess-piece down on a disheveled board, on which two wedding rings are also arranged.
All 10 episodes of What/If – which also stars Jane Levy and former Glee actor Blake Jenner – will debut on Netflix on May 25.
Also among the cast are Jurassic World’s Daniella Pineda, Brothers & Sisters star Dave Annable and Samantha Ware, who also previously appeared in Glee.
What/If marks Renée’s first big foray into TV acting, which has proved a success for Hollywood stars like Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Winona Ryder and Viola Davis in recent years.
After a long break, Renée returned to acting in 2016, when she starred in the third Bridget Jones film Bridget Jones’s Baby, as well as the thriller The Whole Truth.
Later this year, she’ll star in the new musical-drama biopic Judy, playing acting legend Judy Garland.
