Amorous Couple Interrupts BBC's Live Olympic Coverage

"Apparently they’re reading a book in a strange pose."

The perils of live TV.

The BBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games was interrupted Thursday by a couple who were definitely weren’t having sex on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach.

Host Dan Walker was presenting live on BBC Four when viewers spotted what appeared to be the amorous pair getting up close and personal on the sand in the background of the shot.

“And for those asking what’s going on in the background on social media now, we’re not gonna zoom in, but rest assured, it’s not that. It’s just a hug,” the embarrassed host claimed to the camera.

“They’re reading a book, apparently they’re reading a book in a strange pose,” he added, before promising to find out exactly which tome they were enjoying.

Many Twitter users lightheartedly doubted Walker’s claim that the couple were just indulging in some night-time beach reading, with one viewer suggesting they were actually taking part in some “copacabonking.”

Walker was still insisting later on Twitter that the lovebirds were reading a book:

Just for clarification... they were reading a book!!! That couple were definitely reading a book 😂😂😂 #Copacanoodle

The incident comes just days after a boisterous bachelorette party crashed Walker’s show, in which the Brazilian bride-to-be began chanting the network’s name after being asked when she was tying the knot.
