Robbie Williams gives a prime ministerial briefing with a difference in his new music video, undergoing a dramatic makeover to transform himself into Boris Johnson.

The chart-topping star’s new festive track Can’t Stop Christmas sees him looking back over the trash fire that was 2020, with lyrics like “Santa’s on his sleigh but now he’s two metres away”, “people need something to believe in after a year of being in” and the opening line, “oh what a miserable year”.

He unveiled the song’s music video on Monday morning, which sees him sending up the past-times some of us took up during lockdown, including knitting, Zooming friends and, naturally, online shopping for toilet roll.

But of course, no 2020 recap would be complete without a nod to Boris Johnson’s briefings, with Robbie donning prosthetics and a wig to play the PM.

Robbie also appears to take a swipe at the government’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, with conflicting messages flashing up throughout the video including “stay home”, “eat out”, “don’t go out” and the classic “stay alert”.

The Can’t Stop Christmas video ends with Robbie’s version of Johnson having a festive dance-off with his advisors, before being joined by the queen of choreo herself, Theresa May.

Can’t Stop Christmas is a new addition to the tracklisting of Robbie’s festive album The Christmas Present, which was released last year.

The album features covers of a number of Christmas classics, as well as new collaborations with stars like Rod Stewart and boxer Tyson Fury.
