Royal Baby Name Odds: What Will Harry And Meghan Name Their Son?

The bets point to Arthur or James... but could he be a Barack?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave no clues during her pregnancy as to what they intended to call their royal baby.

And now their son has arrived – and Prince Harry is so happy he is even thanking a horse – we’re only marginally closer to knowing.

When he spoke to the press after his son’s arrival on Bank Holiday Monday, Harry suggested he and Meghan were still deciding on a name before introducing their son to the world.

This delay hasn’t stopped people continuing to place their bets, however. Ever since the couple announced they were expecting, bookmakers have been releasing the odds on potential names, ranging from Diana (the baby’s late grandmother) to Philip (his great-grandfather).

But now we know Baby Sussex is a boy, the odds have focused in on some likely contenders.

And according to Coral, Alexander (5/1) has overtaken Arthur (6/1) and Albert (8/1) as the most popular choice on people’s list.

If Meghan and Harry are prepared for their son NOT to be top of the school register with a name beginning with A, then James (8/1) and Spencer (10/1) also make the top five.

The latter was, of course, the maiden name of the baby’s late grandmother – with her first name, Diana, topping the odds had Baby Sussex been a girl.

Meanwhile the bookmaker aggregator Oddschecker ranked the names in the following order: James, Arthur, Philip, Spencer, Alexander.

You can currently get 100-1 odds on Barack at several bookmakers – which, given that the Obamas were among the first to issue congratulations to their friends, the Duke and Duchess, would give warm feels all round.

Meanwhile, Boris and Donald share the bottom spots on Oddschecker’s list.

Or would one of these classic British choices take their fancy instead?

If Harry is right about their schedule, we should find out by around Wednesday, probably via the couple’s recently created Instagram account @sussexroyal – along with its other 6.1 million followers.

Let’s hope we get a picture too.
