RuPaul’s Drag Race UK finalist Baga Chipz has spoken out after receiving criticism over the awkward scenes featuring herself and her mother in this week’s episode.

In the most recent instalment, the four remaining queens were tasked with giving their mums and sisters a drag make-over.

While the majority of the queens were praised for their attempts, Baga was criticised for her Kim Kardashian-inspired effort, leading her to make a series of comments about her mother that raised eyebrows among viewers.

Addressing the judges, Baga repeated on more than one occasion that it was more difficult to give a makeover to a woman “of a certain age”, before declaring her mum had a “bit of a tum” and was also as “blind as a bat”.

Once the episode had aired, viewers on social media were less than impressed with Baga over the uncomfortable scenes, which the drag star initially brushed off, insisting she “loves her mum” and was “proud” of their presentation on the runway…

In the early hours of the following morning, Baga posted another tweet in response to the backlash, insisting that “no one knows her life story”.

“I’m not a victim but it’s been hard,” she wrote. “Be kind.”

During the episode, the contestant admitted that she and her mother were not as close as other pairs in the work room, while judge Alan Carr suggested – based on his own experiences filming with his mum – that Baga might have been preoccupied with worrying about how her mum was getting on, to be present in the challenge.

Ultimately, it was Cheryl Hole who was sent home at the final hurdle, after facing off against Baga in a lip sync to Amy Winehouse’s Tears Dry On Their Own.

RuPaul’s Drag Race concludes next week, with the final streaming on BBC Three from 8pm on Thursday night.
