This article contains major spoilers for the final of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the first series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK has been a complete and utter triumph, and after eight weeks of near-perfect TV, the competition came at a sickening close as the final episode hit iPlayer on Thursday night.
Divina De Campo, Baga Chipz and The Vivienne went head-to-head in one final challenge in the hope of being crowned the UK’s first drag superstar – and while that was going on, viewers on Twitter were standing by with their own commentary, which had more sass and snark than the top three combined...
1. After the queens were set the challenge of writing a verse to To The Moon, it became apparent people had been mishearing the lyrics all series
2. There was something of an explanation about Baga’s relationship with her mum after last week’s uncomfortable scenes
3. And she was then back on form with her one liners
4. The appearance of AJ and Curtis Pritchard gave fans some Love Island flashbacks they’d rather have forgotten
5. One thing they hadn’t forgotten though was how he treated Amy in the villa
6. This was a real missed opportunity
7. AJ was also not the smiley pro we know and love from Strictly...
8... which certainly surprised The Vivienne
9. Not least when she and Baga were then expected to master his complicated choreography
10. Baga summed it up the best
11. Of course, Divina slayed the routine, but there was outrage she didn’t appear to be praised as much as they others
12. While the judges’ critiques of other aspects of her time on the show raised some eyebrows
13. When the queens were asked to pitch why they should win, there was proof the beef between Divina and The Vivienne was still alive and well
14. And Divina’s humility and modesty (or lack thereof) did not go unnoticed
15. But there was subsequent outrage when she was not crowned the winner
16. Still though, plenty of others were still very happy with the result
17. While there was no Miss Congeniality this time around, there was no doubt who would have won it
18. And the countdown to series two is officially on already
The whole series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
