As well as being a well known West End star, Ruthie Henshall also happened to date Prince Edward in the early nineties, and boy does she have tales to tell.
The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star regaled her fellow campmate Shane Richie - and everyone watching at home - with some legendary anecdotes of her time dating the royal during Friday night’s show.
It’s fair to say, we were perched.
As well as revealing that she “shagged” in the bedrooms of Buckingham Palace, Ruthie also recounted a brilliant story of her getting a little bit too tiddly before performing show tunes for The Queen, Princess Diana and other members of the Royal Family at Balmoral.
“There was Diana, the Queen, Margaret, the Queen Mother, Charles, Edward,” Ruthie began.
“Diana was lovely. I don’t remember a lot because Charles gave me my first martini. I’ve never tried it before so I was fairly… I had two of them and I was like: ‘Woah!’
“The Queen and Margaret start singing a hymn and Diana goes, ‘Sing us a song!’ Margaret then goes, ‘Yes sing us a song from that show you’re in’.
“I must have changed key three times because I was so pissed on martinis.”
Ruthie also divulged that she once stole a coat hanger from Windsor Castle as a cheeky memento before sharing that the royals have “normal toilet roll” - without a “royal seal” as she expected.
Les Misérables star Ruthie dated Edward for five years in the early 1990s. But she ended things when told she would have to give up her career to be a royal.
The pair met while Edward was working for Andrew Lloyd Webber as a production assistant after Ruthie landed the lead role in A Star Is Born.
She described him as a “lovely bloke.” “I genuinely fell in love with him,” she said.
She went on to marry actor and singer Tim Howar. The couple tied the knot in 2004, and welcomed two daughters together, before announcing their separation in August 2009.
