'Scott And Bailey' is to end at the close of the current series, it has been reported.
Boss have decided not to renew the hit ITV police drama, which stars Suranne Jones and Lesley Sharp, as they want it to bow out while it is still on top.
A source told The Sun: "'Scott and Bailey' have had a good run together and have proven to be one of television's most popular detective duos but there won't be any more crime fighting after this series has ended.
"ITV made the decision not to make any more episodes. Suranne and Lesley have loved playing the parts but they’re ready to hand their badges in and do something else."
The move will come as a surprise to fans, as the show has pulled in over five million viewers for its latest run, which will reach its climax later this month.
Suranne had wanted to quit 'Scott And Bailey' after the end of series four, when Amelia Bullmore left her role as DCI Gill Murray, but was persuaded to stay on for more episodes as DI Rachel Bailey, alongside Lesley's DC Janet Scott.
She recently confirmed she will be reprising her role as Gemma Foster in BBC One's hit 'Doctor Foster', which proved to be the stand-out drama of 2015, pulling in over 10 million viewers.
Things are also going brilliantly for Suranne away from the spotlight, after she gave birth to her first child in March.
