Selma Blair has clarified her comments after being quoted as stating that her friend and former co-star Cameron Diaz has retired from showbusiness.
Earlier this week, Selma was responsible for several headlines announcing Cameron’s retirement, following an interview in which she appeared to claim that the actress had turned her back on the acting world.
As reported by Metro, Selma said: “I had lunch with Cameron the other day.
She added: “I mean, she doesn’t need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life, I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy.”
However, it would seem that Selma may have been hasty in announcing that Cameron - whose last on-screen appearance was in 2014 - was leaving the acting world.
As an increasing number of outlets reported Cameron’s retirement, Selma told her Twitter followers: “BREAKING NEWS… Guys please, I was making a joke in an interview. CAMERON DIAZ is NOT retiring from ANYTHING.”
She then joked: “For more breaking news: I am NOW retiring from being Cameron Diaz’s spokesperson.”
Selma and Cameron starred together in ‘The Sweetest Thing’ back in 2002, with Christina Applegate completing their on-screen trio.
Cameron’s most recent film role was in 2014, when she played Miss Hannigan in a modernised re-telling of ‘Annie’.
That same year, she also starred in ‘The Other Woman’ with Leslie Mann and Kate Upton, as well as the comedy ‘Sex Tape’.
