Despite the huge fanfare around its return, E4 has confirmed that they’ve pulled the plug on the revival of Shipwrecked after just one series.
Following the huge success of Love Island, the popular T4 show Shipwrecked returned to our screens after a seven-year absence back in January.
However, despite attempts to draw in fans of the sun-soaked ITV2 series, it failed to prove as popular, pulling in 648,000 viewers for its launch, with numbers then dwindling over its two-week run.
In a statement given to The Sun, a spokesperson said: “Shipwrecked brought a much-appreciated splash of winter sunshine to E4 this year.
“However, with a host of new E4 shows arriving in 2020, Shipwrecked will not be on screen next year.”
Love Island is currently onto its fifth series, and is continuing to go from strength to strength, with two of last week’s episodes giving ITV2 its highest ever viewing figures.
The episodes, shown on Tuesday and Wednesday, had consolidated figures of 4.6 million and 4.7 million respectively, which rose to 6.1 million and 6.2 million when those watching online are taken into consideration, the first time the show has surpassed the six million mark.
But while Love Island is still thriving, shows inspired by its success have proved less successful, with ITV2’s Survival Of The Fittest and Bromans being pulled after one series, as was Channel 5’s Make Or Break.
Shipwrecked originally aired on Channel 4 from 1999 to 2012, and was shown in the Saturday morning T4 slot.
Former contestants included TV presenters Jeff Brazier and Sarah-Jane Crawford, as well as reality star Stephen Bear, who would go on to appear in Ex On The Beach and Celebrity Big Brother.
