The first trailer for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog film has dropped and reception has been… mixed. And that’s putting it incredibly nicely.
The movie will see the popular Sega character brought to the big screen with the help of CGI technology and fans were given their first glimpse at the new-look hero on Tuesday.
Obviously, it didn’t take long for fans on social media to begin sharing their takes on the promo clip, with many voicing their disdain for Sonic’s new look, particularly his weird new teeth and lips:
There were also plenty of (unfavourable) comparisons to Detective Pikachu, who makes his cinema debut later this month:
Some people even went back to watch the Detective Pikachu trailer in order to make themselves feel a little better:
It wasn’t all bad though and one aspect that has got the thumbs up is Jim Carrey’s appearance towards the end of the trailer:
Jim plays baddie Dr. Eggman and the film marks his return to live-action after a long absence.
The voice of Sonic is being provided by Parks And Recreation actor Ben Schwartz.
The movie also stars James Marsden, who you might recognise from X-Men, 27 Dresses and Hairspray.
Sonic The Hedgehog will be out in November. Watch the trailer above.
