We’re sure you remember the ill-fated Sonic The Hedgehog trailer released earlier this year because… well, if you’re anything like us, the CGI version of the classic character will still be haunting your nightmares.
Upon its release in April, the Sonic trailer was pretty much universally panned, largely due to the design of the titular hedgehog, which people were pretty upset about.
The backlash was so severe that director Jeff Fowler admitted his team would be pushing the film’s release back so they could tweak the design of the character, and tweak it they have .
A second trailer for the film was released on Tuesday, and we’re pleased to report that Sonic is looking much more like his normal self.
His human-esque dimensions have now been replaced to give him the big-headed look he sported in the original Sega games, while his eyes are now looking much more Sonic too.
And as for those unsettling teeth and lips that sparked so much controversy back in April? Gone, and replaced by a far more subtle row of teeth more befitting of an anthropomorphic CGI marsupial.
Fans were quick to shower the character’s re-design with praise, with many celebrating the “glow up” on social media:
In the new trailer, we also get to know much more about James Marsden’s character, as he learns to navigate the world with a giant blue hedgehog as his right-hand man, while Jim Carrey is still present and correct as the villainous Dr Eggman.
Sonic The Hedgehog is still slated to hit cinemas in February 2020, featuring the voice of Parks And Recreation actor Ben Schwartz as Sonic.
