As we edge increasingly closer to the Spice Girls’ 20th anniversary, the rumour mill is going into overdrive about how the group will be marking the occasion.
With reports suggesting that new material could be on the way, The Sun have now claimed that their return to the music scene will be marked with a special documentary.
A source told the newspaper: “The Spice Girls comeback is the big story in pop so it’s no wonder the girls want to maximise their popularity. There is certainly a big audience for it.
However, it’s thought that only three of the original band members will be likely to appear in the TV special, with both Victoria Beckham and Melanie C both thought to have given a reunion the thumbs down.
Victoria was the first of the Spice Girls to extinguish any reports claiming she’d be back with the group, insisting she was too busy with her new life in the fashion world, and had moved on from the band.
It was later claimed that Melanie had also dropped out of the rumoured project, due to having “other priorities”.
Emma Bunton, Geri Horner and Mel B are still thought to be going ahead with some sort of reunion though, with various reports suggesting that both live shows and new music could be in the pipeline.
Speaking on Rylan Clark’s talk show last month, Mel disclosed: “I thought I’d just see if my girls were available to hang out and be a bit creative…Haha, damn it. I didn’t say anything. Emma, Geri, I didn’t say anything!”
Next month marks 20 years since the Spice Girls skyrocketed to the top of the charts with their debut single, ‘Wannabe’, later racking up a host of chart-toppers including ‘2 Become 1’, ‘Spice Up Your Life’ and ‘Viva Forever’.
