Victoria Beckham had admitted she does not want Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner to sing the Spice Girls songs as part of their reunion as it would be “sad”.
The artist formerly known as Posh Spice declined the chance to rejoin her bandmates to celebrate their 20th anniversary, but has given her their support to continue without them.
Just as long as they don’t want to sing ‘Wannabe’, ‘Spice Up Your Life’ or any of the songs that made them famous.
Asked if she wished the trio well, Victoria told The Sunday Times Style magazine: “Of course, as a new group, I do.”
She continued: “I do think they should sing their own material though, because what we did in the Spice Girls was so special. If they sang Spice Girls songs I think I might be a bit sad.”
Of course, Victoria isn’t the only member who is missing out on the half baked big reunion, as Mel C will also not be present.
She penned an essay of her decision to not take part for Love magazine, claiming she believed the band peaked with their performance at the 2012 Olympic closing ceremony.
“I’d love to play huge arenas across the world, sing our brilliantly bonkers pop songs and relive our former glory - it is of course a very lucrative opportunity too,” she wrote.
“But we were a five-piece band. Didn’t we reach a peak with the Olympics? There’s a lot to be said for bowing out on a high note.
“For me the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out ‘Spice Up Your Life’ on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics.
“Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans.”
Mel, Emma and Geri announced plans to celebrate their 20th anniversary back in July, with an *ahem* expense spared video.
It isn’t yet known exactly what their reunion will entail, - whether that includes live performances or new material - as at the moment all we have is a new website naming them as ‘Spice Girls GEM’.
