Thousands of people across the UK descended onto the streets this afternoon to protest against the suspension of parliament, and many of them did not set out empty-handed.

The announcement that Prime Minister Boris Johnson had initiated the prorogation of parliament, halting the Commons until mid-October with the Brexit deadline just weeks away, sparked a huge public outcry and more than 30 protests in cities and towns across the nation.

There have been a number of huge protests over the past few years, and viral pictures of the placards carried through the crowds have often taken centre stage.

They may have only had three days to dig out the cardboard boxes and poster paints, but it’s fair to say that some of the signs from today’s protest did not disappoint.

Emotional, funny, and just a little bit sweary, these are some of the best signs we’ve seen so far:

(Can’t find them on social media but how cool)

Thank you to everyone around the country protesting the prorogation of Parliament. My husband has joined the Exeter march, and I'd be there too if health permitted. #DefendOurDemocracy pic.twitter.com/KkTvfOhL6F

When I made a re-usable fabric banner for my first Brexit protest, I really hadn’t considered how prescient the decision would be or quite how many outings it would eventually get... Off we go again! pic.twitter.com/7RBEyYP5Zt
