He told listeners: ā€œI want to tell you a little story. In 1996 I entered a dance competition at the Pontins Holiday Park. I tried my very best. I danced to MC Hammerā€™s Canā€™t Touch This. I was slighted, I came second and I swore retribution.

ā€œAs as I walked away from those Red Coats I said: ā€˜One day Iā€™m going to take part in a dance competition and get really good and you will rue the day you slighted meā€™.

ā€œFast forward to 2019 Iā€™m going to be on this yearā€™s series of Strictly Come Dancing. I swore attribution because Iā€™m coming.ā€

Dev began his career in childrenā€™s television, before landing a his own show on BBCā€™s 1Xtra.

He was then fast-tracked to BBC Radio 1 and Dev did a long stint hosting early breakfast, warming the nation up for then host Chris Moyles who was later succeeded by Nick Grimshaw.
