Alex Scott has become the 10th celebrity to be voted off this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The former England women’s footballer failed to make next week’s semi final after landing in the dance-off alongside Chris Ramsey during Sunday night’s results show.

Alex and her partner Neil Jones had to perform their Samba to Joyful Joyful from Sister Act, which landed them bottom of the leaderboard during Saturday’s Musicals special with a score of 27.

Chris and partner Karen Clifton also performed their Foxtrot to Consider Yourself from Oliver! in the hope of staying in the competition, after it bagged them 28 points.

After they’d both danced again, there was a split vote on the panel, with Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse both voting to save Alex and Neil.

When Bruno Tonioli voted to save Chris and Karen, it meant Head Judge Shirley Ballas had the casting vote.

Saving Chris and Karen, she explained: “For me it’s going to go personal taste, and I’m going to go with the couple that I felt had the most content and more powerfully entertaining.”

After the result was revealed, Alex told host Tess Daly: “I’ve been a fan of Strictly forever so to even be here and dance here every week. I’ve loved every moment and I have to thank everyone, and everyone behind the scenes to make this show work. I’ve literally lived out another dream I had football and then this chapter.

“I have to thank my dancer partner, he’s incredible. Thank you to everyone.”

Neil added: “I’ve been so lucky because I got a partner. And, I got you, you were the best. You were so good. She’s taught me so much.”

Four couples - Kelvin Fletcher and Oti Mabuse, Karim Zeroual and Amy Dowden, Emma Barton and Anton Du Beke, and Chris and Karen - will now go on to compete in Saturday’s live semi final, which airs at 7pm on BBC One.
