‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Amy Dowden has revealed she and fellow dancer Gorka Marquez were injured after colliding during rehearsals for a group dance.
The Welsh pro said she was left with a sprained ankle that left her unable to train with partner Danny John-Jules ahead of last Saturday’s live show.
Speaking on spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’, Amy said: “In the pro rehearsal, unfortunately Gorka and I collided. It was just an accident that happened; my heel went right on the top of Gorka’s foot, so my ankle went and I sprained it.
“Gorka was left with a nasty bruise too.”
Of her and Danny’s routine, she said: “We didn’t get to rehearse together at all on the Friday, and I actually think it helped Danny, because going in and out of the lifts, he was really caring. He was brilliant.
“He led me around that floor beautifully and I wasn’t worried at all.”
Danny added: “I was forced to take command.”
Despite the injury, Danny and Amy went on to score 30 points from the judges for their American smooth to ‘Spirit In The Sky’ by Doctor And The Medics.
The pair have been blighted by problems during their time in the competition, as last week, Danny revealed he had collapsed during training.
The actor passed out while doing a run through for his high-scoring Jive at the show’s studios.
He said: “It’s cardio, fitness. I haven’t moved like that since a long time. You worry about slowing down and if you slow down it’s a bit of a no-no.
“I did collapse after the second run, the tech run on Friday. The floor manager looked down at me looking up at the ceiling and asked me: ‘Do you want to do another one?’”
This weekend, Danny and Amy will be dancing the Quickstep to ‘Freedom’ by Pharrell Williams.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ continues on Saturday at 7.05pm on BBC One.
