Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left furious at the early exit of Dev Griffin and Dianne Buswell.

The pair were voted off the BBC ballroom show on Sunday night, after landing in the dance-off alongside Viscountess Emma Weymouth and partner Aljaz Skorjanec.

Dev and Dianne’s appearance in the bottom two had been a surprise, given their Cha Cha to Sam Smith’s Dancing With A Stranger had scored them 27 points and a mid-table position in the leaderboard.

Dev had also emerged as one of the front runners of the competition last week, when his Aladdin-themed Street routine scored 36 pout of a possible 40.

His and Dianne’s shock exit sparked some passionate responses on Twitter...

After all four judges voted to keep Emma and Aljaz, there was complete and utter bewilderment as to how Dev and Dianne had even landed in the dance-off

Trying to work out how Dev and Dianne got in the dance off, and then to not be saved in the dance off? He’s one of the best dancers this year! Gone at least 6 weeks too soon #Strictly #Strictlyresults pic.twitter.com/U0yZh9wP1r

Dev in the dance off is absolutely CRIMINAL. How on earth has Alex got through over him???? #Strictly #Strictlyresults #StrictlyComeDancing

There was soon finger-pointing at the judges for under-marking their Cha Cha and feigning shock at then seeing them in the dance-off

Judges to Dev & Diane “I’m surprised you’re in the bottom two”

Really? After the weird-ass scores you doled out last night? #Strictlyresults #strictly pic.twitter.com/vWzPuPG7Ee

SERIOUSLY?! Dev was WAY better in the dance off! Emma was out of time with Aljaz several times throughout that dance, especially at the start. Whereas Dev didn't make any mistakes. The crazy scoring last night was bad enough but this was a joke! RIDICULOUS! 😤👎 #Strictly x

the judges: *under mark dev and dianne massively*

the judges: omg i can’t believe dev and dianne are in the bottom two. i’m so shocked!! this was never expected!!

the judges: *send dev and dianne home*#strictly 🤷🏼♀️🧐⁉️

The absolute stunned silence from the crowd and contestants says everything. Completely undeserved, Dev had the potential to get much further if it wasn’t for all the jumbled voting last night. #strictly #Strictlyresults

The judges, under-marking Dev, saying they were shocked to see him in the dance off, and then sending him home #Strictly pic.twitter.com/3Pa9sSZW5E

Some fans also claimed they could not get through to vote for Dev, sparking inevitable “fix” accusations

I tried to vote for @dbuzz6589 and @dev_101 at least 10 times over the phone last night... None of my calls went through, the line just cut off 🤔 And now they've been eliminated, I seriously think Strictly needs to review this situation.

Bit suspicious that the voting phone lines weren’t working for dev & dianne last night and now they’ve coincidently been voted off the show... yet last week they received 10’s from the judges🤔 dev was so talented I don’t think that decision was fair at all.. #strictly

@Ofcom I want to complain about strictly results I couldn't get through to vote for dev and Dianne last night #StrictlyComeDancing

Let’s start a petition
RETWEET this if you think @dbuzz6589 and dev should stay in the competition due to the phone number not working ! @bbcstrictly #strictlyspoiler #Strictly 🙄❤️

its funny how the phone line wasn't working for dev and dianne last night and then dev and dianne get sent home just saying #Strictly

— pariss💗 (@parissr98) October 13, 2019

What a bleeding fix!! Some off us couldn’t vote for Diane and Dev last night because the phone line was down!! 😡 FIX???? 🤔 Also wtf were the judges on last night with their scoring?! Sort it out strictly or you’ve a viewer for good!

HuffPost UK has contacted a Strictly spokesperson for comment and is awaiting a response.

Dev said he was “gutted” to be voted out so soon, after the results of the dance-off were announced on Sunday’s show.

Dianne could also be seen sobbing as the pair performed their farewell dance.

The pair later took to social media, emphasising their sadness to be out of the competition.

Dev wrote on Instagram: “It’s been incredible! I wish I could have stayed a bit longer but sadly my strictly ride has come to an end.”

Dianne added: “I’m truly gutted as @dev_101 really had so much potential and I wanted to teach him so much more. I won’t lie I’m devastated.”

I’m sure you could all see how much this meant to us 😔I’m truly gutted as @dev_101 really had so much potential and I wanted to teach him so much more. I won’t lie I’m devastated 😔 but thank you all so much for your support and dev thank you so much I’m so proud of you xx
