'Strictly Come Dancing': Ed Balls Admits Dropping Katya Jones On Her Head

Remember the nail-biting moment Ed Balls almost dropped his ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ partner Katya Jones live on air?

Well, it turns out what we saw was actually the tip of the iceberg.

The former Labour MP has admitted that things had already taken an unfortunate turn in rehearsal weeks beforehand, when he actually dropped Katya on her head.

He tells The Sun: “There was one particular thing in the Charleston where we were practising and there was a point where she comes back head-first.

“She falls back and I’m supposed to catch her, but we were discussing how to do it, and we had a choreographer there with us as well.

“One thing you learn is that you have to agree whether you’re doing [the move] or not but on this particular occasion Katya thought we were, I didn’t realise we were.”

And then what, Ed?

“So at the key moment I turned to the choreographer to say ‘is this the right thing?’ as she went flying back head first,” he continues, “And it turned out to be really quite brutal.”

Don’t worry, though, folks. Katya turned out to be just fine - and promptly put Ed in his place for not being focussed.

Ed jokes: “Let’s just say I’ve not done that again. It would be fair to say that I was roundly chastised.”

While it has to be said that Ed isn’t the most impressive dancer ‘Strictly’ has ever had, viewers have been won over by watching him improve each week, and last week he even managed to bag an 8 from one of the judges.

He and Katya will be returning to the ‘Strictly’ dance floor in Saturday’s (5 November) live show, kicking off at 6.55pm on BBC One.
