Olympic gymnast Claudia Fragapane has joined the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ line-up.
The 18-year-old all-around gymnast announced she was the 11th contestant to sign up for this year’s series of the BBC ballroom show on Saturday (20 August) night.
Claudia, who excels on floor and vault, is fresh from the Olympic Games in Rio where she competed as part of Team GB.
Speaking of joining ‘Strictly’, she said: “I am a really big fan of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and am so excited to be chosen to take part this year.
“I am used to performing in front of big crowds but this is going to be so different to my floor routines in gymnastics – but I love a challenge and performing! I also love dressing up and wearing sparkly costumes.”
Claudia will be hoping to live up to the success of fellow Olympic gymnast Louis Smith, who won the show when he competed back in 2012.
She joins former MP Ed Balls, ‘Pop Idol’ winner Will Young, TV personality Laura Whitmore, former ‘Xtra Factor’ host Melvin Odoom, Olympics presenter Ore Oduba, singer Louise Redknapp, ex-’Hollyoaks’ actor Danny Mac, model Daisy Lowe, ‘BBC Breakfast’ host Naga Manchetty and singer Anastacia on this year’s line-up.
The final four contestants taking part in this year’s series will be announced on Monday.
‘Strictly Come Dancing’ returns to BBC One on Saturday 3 September.
