Police arrested a suspect at Manchester’s Arndale shopping centre on Friday evening after reports emerged of a man armed with a knife.
According to eyewitness reports, shoppers and staff alike were evacuated from the area as police descended – just a week on from a knife attack inside the busy shopping centre which saw four people rushed to hospital.
Videos and images on social media show a huge response from the emergency services, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that the incident had started as a fight outside a branch of Nandos inside the centre.
No one is believed to have been injured, and police said there was “not believed to be any threat to the wider community”.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said on Friday evening: “Police remain in attendance at Manchester Arndale Centre following reports of a man with a knife.
“Officers attended and a man has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning.”
A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were in attendance but there are no patients, there are no casualties so there is no more information at this time.”
