Tanya Roberts' Rep Says He Mistakenly Announced Her Death, As Partner Told Mid-Interview Star Is Alive

James Bond star Tanya Roberts is still alive, it has been revealed, after her publicist admitted he mistakenly issued a statement about her death.

Multiple outlets, including HuffPost UK and The Associated Press, reported that the 65-year-old actor had died, on the authority of a statement from her representative Mike Pingel. (HuffPost UK’s initial article reporting Roberts’ death has been redirected to this update.)

Pingel later told TMZ and The Associated Press that Roberts was still alive, but in a poor condition.

In his original statement, Pingel said Roberts collapsed while walking her dogs on Christmas Eve, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and died on Sunday. Roberts’ husband, Lance O’Brien, had reportedly believed she died.

The publicist told the AP later Monday that O’Brien said he had held his wife and she “seemed for him to slip away.”

O’Brien apparently received news from the hospital that his partner was alive when he answered his phone during an interview with Inside Edition. While O’Brien is identified by the AP and other outlets as Roberts’ husband, Inside Edition identifies him as her boyfriend.

“The hospital is telling me she is alive. They are calling me from the ICU team,” O’Brien says in a clip from the interview.

He said that Roberts did not have Covid-19 but he was not permitted to see her until what he thought were her final hours due to hospital protocols.

Roberts was perhaps best known for playing Bond girl Stacey Sutton opposite Roger Moore’s 007 in 1985’s A View To A Kill, as well as appearing in Charlie’s Angels and That ’70s Show.
