The Cabins Gets A Mixed Reaction From Viewers Over Love Island Comparisons

With Love Island off our screens this January, it filled the void for some, and paled in comparison for others.

ITV2โ€ฒs winter Love Island replacement The Cabins did not appear to be everyoneโ€™s type on paper as it debuted on Monday night.

The reality show got a mixed reaction from viewers, as a bunch of singletons coupled up inside some woodland lodges in the hope of finding love.

The format sees the couples get to know their potential partners in their own cabin in the space of 24 hours, before they have to decide if they would like to spend more time together, or call it a day.

The Cabins was commissioned after this yearโ€™s January series of Love Island was cancelled due to the pandemic, and with many in desperate need of a new reality show to sink their teeth into, it filled that void perfectly...

This show is already screaming cringe united and im fully gonna enjoy watching it every night lol #TheCabins

#TheCabins is just what I need after tonight's news

Overall I really enjoyed that @itv2. It's quarky original and outside the box where reality TV is concerned. Bring on tomorrow night save me a seat Tuesday at 9 on @itv2 #Thecabins

Good of ITV2 to time a reality show with the start of a new lockdown - thank you! #nationallockdown #RealityTV #TheCabins

After the state the UK is in, this is the trash TV we all need #TheCabins pic.twitter.com/EdzXRfgk7r

For others though, it paled in comparison...

Just watched #TheCabins on ITV2. The cabins were beautiful, but that was about it ๐Ÿ˜† Don't think I'll be back for Episode two. It's definitely not Love Island ๐Ÿค” pic.twitter.com/ZN2r7RZB92

#TheCabins is definitely the Poundland version of Love Island...

โ€” Jasmine Hoyt (@jazzhoyt) January 4, 2021

I tried #TheCabins but I canโ€™t get into it.

It just isnโ€™t #LoveIsland

There is no one I identify with on the show, there is no girl that I fancy/ the VO sorry isnโ€™t for me.

I wish this show was successful but I have a feeling itโ€™s going to be the same as Survival of fittest

โ€” Johnny Seifert (@JohnnySeifert) January 4, 2021

#TheCabins the Farm Foods version of #LoveIsland

โ€” Jamie (@IveGotWood1979) January 4, 2021

Nah this show donโ€™t bang like love island does... Iโ€™m sorry I gave it a chance - they should have just done love island in a big log cabin tbh #thecabins

However, the show also won praise for its representation of LGBTQ relationships โ€“ something Love Island has repeatedly faced criticism for not doing.

I do love that fact that there is same sex couples on the show. Well done @itv2 #TheCabins

I love trash TV so much, and I am watching The Cabins and there is a lesbian couple and Im dying ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜#TheCabins

โ€” TorAthena (@TorAthena) January 4, 2021

Not sold on #TheCabins just yet, but thereโ€™s a same-sex couple so itโ€™s already topped Love Island

โ€” Laura Jane Turner #blacklivesmatter (@ljaneturner) January 4, 2021

Finally lgbt on the cabins. Yes modern society on telly #TheCabins

โ€” Joanne Cronin (@purple_sounds) January 4, 2021

Contestants having access to their phones while in the cabins proved to be a controversial format point...

#TheCabins Should have banned mobiles going into this. Then you'd see the real person once they had to actually talk to one another.

Petition for the producers to take away their phones ๐Ÿ˜ฌ#thecabins pic.twitter.com/UTHvjzRMgO

โ€” Jasmine Hoyt (@jazzhoyt) January 4, 2021

why are they just sitting on their phones????? #TheCabins

โ€” katina๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ (@kat1naa) January 5, 2021

Wtf is with the texting in front of each other?! If you did that on a real date, you'd be considered rude! #TheCabins

โ€” Charlotte Buckland (@MissCharlieB84) January 4, 2021

#TheCabins has a workable format, but at times it just feels very slow. The use of mobiles brings nothing to the show, and just interrupts the flow. I donโ€™t want to watch people texting.

โ€” Sam Ellis (@SamCEllis) January 4, 2021

Nah... take the phones off them #TheCabins

โ€” Louise Smith (@LouiseS79443824) January 4, 2021

The phones are annoying #TheCabins

โ€” Gina (@ginajackson__) January 4, 2021

But there was one even bigger problem with the show โ€“ it was making some people want to book a mini break, and given the lockdown announced just moments before the episode aired, thatโ€™s now somewhat impossible.

Caught up with #TheCabins on @itv2 really liking the show and I so want to take a vacation in one of those cabins as the look amazing ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ pic.twitter.com/k48npcsUFf

#TheCabins is making us want to book a weekend away pic.twitter.com/zX7s0s7ysW
